Hunan

Hunan, a mountainous province in southern China, was the early home of Communist leader Mao Zedong. The village of Shaoshan, where Mao was born in 1893, welcomes visitors to his mud-brick childhood house and the Mao Zedong Memorial Museum. In northwestern Hunan, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area is distinguished by thousands of quartzite sandstone columns, as well as caves, waterfalls and endangered wildlife.

Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie, a city in the northwest of China's Hunan province, is home to the famed Wulingyuan Scenic Area. This protected zone encompasses thousands of jagged quartzite sandstone columns, many of which rise over 200m, as well as caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Wulingyuan also encompasses forests, rivers, waterfalls and 2 large natural land bridges, as well as endangered plant and animal species.

Fenghuang Ancient City

Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town was built in Qing Dynasty and has kept it's orginal appearance over the last 300 years..

Southern Great Wall

The Southern Great Wall is 10 kilometers away from Fenghuang Ancient City. It was discovered in 2,000 by archaeologists. Stretching for more than 190 kilometers the ancient wall installations are same as those of the northern Great Wall.

There are more than 800 whistle terraces, gun emplacements, blockhouses, where troops would defend against invaders from the south. Now two sections of the wall are still standing: one is in Liaojiaqiao Town and the other in Jixing Town. The section in Liaojiaqiao Town has been renovated 1,780 meters for visitors to enjoy.

Hengshan Mountain

Mount Hengshan, located in Hengyang City, is one of China's Five Sacred Mountains. Heng Shan in Shanxi Province is sometimes known as the Northern Heng Shan, and the one in Hunan Province as Southern Heng Shan.

Dongting Lake

Dongting Lake is a large, shallow lake in northeastern Hunan province, China. It is a flood basin of the Yangtze River. Hence the lake's size depends on the season. The provinces of Hubei and Hunan are named after their location relative to the lake: Hubei means "North of the Lake" and Hunan, "South of the Lake".

Yuelu Mountain

A scenic area with many peaks and natural scenery. Mount Yuelu is also dotted with lots of famous places and ancient relics, such as Aiwan Pavilion, Lushan Temple, Wangxiang Pavilion, etc

Wulingyuan Scenic Area

The Wulingyuan Scenic Area is sectioned into 3 parts: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park; Tianzi Mountain and Suoxi Valley

Tianzishan Nature Reserve

Tianzi Mountian is named after Xiang Dakun, a man who led the local farmers' revolt. The Tianzi Mountian is one of the four scenic zones in Wulingyuan. This area is on top of the plateau, and hence enjoys most of the park's most spectacular viewpoints.

Changsha

Changsha is the capital city of Hunan province. It's a large city with a history dating to the Zhou dynasty (1046–256 B.C.). Today it’s known for its rare collection of excavated Western Han dynasty tombs, known as the Mawangdui. The riverside area has an island and temples to explore. Taiping Street is a restored, historical street with interesting local backstreets.

Tianmen Mountain

Tianmen Mountain, meaning Heaven's Gate Mountain, is a mountain located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie. It has what is said to be the longest cable car in the world which takes roughly 30 minutes to travel a length of over 7 km.
